A Little History About St. John Lutheran Church, Elwood, Ind
Our Story, the Short Version
In 1893, Rev. John Booher, found in Elwood community members of the Lutheran faith and joined them together for for a Lutheran Worship Service, the first being on April 3rd of that year. Over the following 130 years, our family has been together through 3 buildings and a variety of pastors, and for all those words we have joyfully been a part of the Elwood community through service and dedication. On December 18th, 1966, we held our first worship service, in the building we still call home. In July 2014, we were blessed to have Rev. Kal Rissman join us as our Pastor and have enjoyed his message and care ever since.
Our Sister Congregation
In 2014 when Rev. Kal came to serve as our pastor, we were sharing his care with another congregation, The Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior, in Alexandria, Indiana. This wonderful opportunity meant that we could also share in occasional worship services and activities. We are honored to call Our Blessed Savior our sister church.

Each Autumn, St. John Lutheran and Our Blessed Savior, gather at Rev. Kal's farm for worship, music and the best pitch-in picnic.
